The Open Hardware Summit and World Maker Faire were back-to-back in New York so how could I be anywhere other than in the New York City during this week? The Open Hardware Summit is a chance to get current while meeting many people who care about advancing the powerful concepts of sharing hardware designs.

Many luminaries were in attendance: thought leaders, hardware innovators, originators of key developments, pro makers, educators. The event had been sold out for weeks. Why? Open Hardware offers the promise of benefiting hardware product development the way Open Software benefited the software product development. It’s already having a profound impact on hardware innovation and this is early days still. Open Hardware principles are one of few powerful ideas fueling the Maker Movement.
