I’d driven enough of the Marin Headlands to piece together a bike ride in case the weather cooperated … and it did! This area on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge consists of federal parks and the town of Sausalito. All of it perfectly beautiful and all funneling into the Golden Gate Bridge. Why not bike it all and then across the bridge and back? Why not! Here’s my route:
Here’s a bit of what I saw on my 26 mile ride around heaven-on-earth:
This is shot from Sausalito looking across the bay to downtown San Francisco.
Atop the steepest ascent I paused to view the bridge (and catch my breath!).
As I crossed the bridge I paused to look south toward Lands End.
At Fort Point on the south of the bridge I looked down on Chrissy Field.
Crossing back across the bridge I took this of Angel Island to the east.
From Fort Baker looking across to the southwest and the bridge.
Toward the late afternoon I was in Marin at the cliffs looking north, and
looking south where you can see the little lighthouse that stole my heart.
